What Blue Wave? Trump Rides The Current Of Increasing GOP Turnout

"Thanks for playing, @DonBlankenship".

The results capped a dramatic final week in which Trump used his Twitter bully pulpit to persuade voters not to pick Blankenship and throw away a shot at a winnable race. The courts are running amok to reverse President Trump's agenda without congressional oversight. But Trump's unpredictable nature and the swirl of controversies surrounding him has made their task more hard. The better the economy does - or is perceived to be doing - and the less that people see the 2018 election as a straight referendum on Trump, the better for Republican chances. He called the previous year and a half the "most effective" period for conservatives since he's been in the Senate. Morrisey ran an ad in which a mountain smashes the U.S. Capitol.

"I would never take that course, and if Don felt that that was not, [that] he was explaining it from his... his upbringing, or basically the culture where he comes from", Manchin stated.

Also in OH, the state has finalized its governor's race, with Democrat Richard Cordray facing off against Republican Mike DeWine to replace term-limited Republican Governor John Kasich. With nearly all of the vote tallied, he trailed Mark Harris, a former Baptist pastor in Charlotte, and conceded the race.

A far more forceful intervention by Trump in the Republican primary in Alabama previous year, when he travelled to the state and campaigned publicly for then Senator Luther Strange, failed to shift many voters, and Strange lost the primary to Roy Moore, who then lost the special election in December to Democrat Doug Jones. "Vote Rep. Jenkins or A.G. Morrisey!", he wrote.

Pepper said Democrats have averaged about 660,000 votes in gubernatorial primary elections dating back to 2002, and Tuesday's 679,738 was an above average performance despite minimal support from the state party.

In Indiana, GOP Senate primary victor Mike Braun cast his self-financed, outsider image in the mold of the president, arguing more private sector Americans are still needed in Washington.

While U.S. Representatives Luke Messer and Todd Rokita hammered each other with personal attacks, Braun portrayed his rivals as indistinguishable products of Washington. He possessed all the glittering qualities except, alas, the crucial support of the president himself, who recommended a vote for either of his opponents. The race drew some national attention for its localized version of fights happening in the national Republican party. He also expressed hope that the Trump administration would "go after" pharmacy benefit managers.

Fears about nominating a candidate outside the mainstream escalated in recent weeks, particularly in West Virginia.

There was plenty of good news for Republicans in Ohio. Joe Manchin, despite the state's heavy Republican electorate.

Republicans avoided their biggest potential disaster in a key Senate race, while Democrats saw their own promising field of candidates lock into place.

He said he "handicapped" the Republican primary and had predicted that Attorney General Patrick Morrisey would win, as he did.

Summary of Pets at Home Group Plc (LON:PETS) Ratings
The average 12 month target price among brokerages that have covered the stock in the previous year is GBX 2,227.50 ($31.48). The stock of John Wood Group PLC (LON:WG) has "Outperform" rating given on Wednesday, December 13 by Credit Suisse.

Karnes on Tuesday night claimed an influx of the "far left" voted against him in the primary. Vogel said he voted for Morrisey. "Don Blankenship does not believe it should be Patrick Morrisey and he doesn't believe it should be Joe Manchin". Brown said in a telephone interview.

"Batten the hatches. It's going to be a long ride", Robert Rupp, a political history professor at West Virginia Wesleyan College, said Wednesday. There is no doubt that he was responsible for that mine accident.

Kondik says the national insider-outsider narrative may be overplayed with both parties, "though I do think it's more of a real thing on the Republican side than the Democratic side".

West Virginia might have been an even more hard contest for Republicans had Blankenship, who served a year in prison in connection with a 2010 mine explosion that killed 29 workers, been able to ride a late surge of support to a victory.

"I think we need someone like him that's a fresh face", Ehman said.

But the self-funded Blankenship could pull off an upset in a state where distrust of the political establishment is a biennial sacrament.

"His father-in-law who founded and owns a large Chinese shipping company has given Mitch and his wife millions of dollars over the years". McConnell is married to Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao. She immigrated to the United States from Taiwan as a child.

We're trying to understand what message voters sent yesterday. "There's no race. Races are negro, white caucasian, Hispanic, Asian". Duty and Country PAC, which the party created to meddle in the primary, spent $1.8 million attacking Jenkins. West Virginia Republicans disagreed, evidently, relegating Blankenship's freakish campaign to a distant third place finish.

Braun will take on Sen.

The GOP considers Donnelly to be one of the most vulnerable Democratic senators up for election in November. Trump won IN by 19 points. Mary Taylor, the lieutenant of the sitting Republican governor in OH, disavowed her own boss, John Kasich, an unabashed critic of the president. That's greater than in 2014, when Gov. John Kasich sought re-election and Democrat Ed FitzGerald had little competition in his primary, but less than in 2010, when neither party had a contested gubernatorial contest. Compared to 2016, turnout in the Democrats' primary fell by 45.2 percent; turnout in the Republican primary fell by 58.4 percent. Trump said Renacci's opponent, Democratic U.S. Sen.

The Vice President's brother, Greg Pence, won the GOP primary for Indiana's 6th Congressional District on Tuesday.
