Indiana Officers Escort Boy To School After His Dad's Murder

His dad Rob Pitts was a 16-year veteran of the Terre Haute Police Department, in the USA state of Indiana. But what he got was a 70-strong police escort lining the entrance.

Pitts was killed in shootout with a suspect.

The 5-year-old wore his father's police badge proudly and walked past the long line of officers.

Several of the officers came forward and presented Dakota with small tokens such as a T-shirt and a police patch.

"Our hope is that Dakota's first day back to school after his father's passing is one that he will remember forever and that he will always know how much his father's sacrifice meant to all of us", she added. "He will definitely know his dad was a hero", Kelli Jones, Dakota's aunt, said.

Compared to 2016, turnout in the Democrats' primary fell by 45.2 percent; turnout in the Republican primary fell by 58.4 percent. He said he "handicapped" the Republican primary and had predicted that Attorney General Patrick Morrisey would win, as he did.

Rob is deeply missed, but we are grateful for the time we had with him.

Around 70 officers showed up to support Dakota after the death of his dad, who was a police officer in both Terre Haute and Sullivan for a combined 22 years, according to Fox6.

He was one of four officers who were fired upon in an exchange of gunfire between police and a homicide suspect on May 4, the Terre Haute Police Department said.

It is another tragic loss for the Wabash Valley and the Terre Haute Police Department, ' Sgt. Joe Watts of the Indiana State Police said.

"The sorrow @FLJanetHolcomb & I feel for the family of Patrolman Rob Pitts, the Terre Haute Police Department & the Wabash Valley region is beyond words".
