Lionel Messi explains he has no plan to leave Barcelona

Liverpool academy graduate Trent Alexander-Arnold insists he will be unfazed by coming up against Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo in Kiev.

Neymar moved to Paris Saint-Germain last summer in a record-breaking €222 million (£195m/$263m) transfer, but rumours have swirled around his future all season.

But the 26-year-old striker has sought to play down the talk of another move.

"It would be bad because of what Ney means to Barcelona", Messi told Argentina's TyC Sports on Tuesday, reports Efe news agency.

He has scored 383 goals 417 matches for the Catalans - winning nine La Liga titles, three Champions League and several other domestic and continental cups in the process.

If he does join Real it would mean him lining up against his former Barcelona side next season in Spain's La Liga - and that's something Messi does not want to see.

"And on a football level, it would make Madrid much stronger than they already are".

In relation to Cristiano Ronaldo, his long-term rival for the Ballon d'Or and to be the considered the greatest player of the modern era, Messi remained as tight-lipped and respectful as ever. "The more trophies I've won at the end of the season, the better, and obviously with the national team, which is something I still don't have".

"I don't need to go to another team to show anything to anyone", he said. "I fight to win everything and I don't need to go anywhere else to prove anything", he claimed.

"I want to win the Champions League every year, to be a league champion every year".

Five-times Ballon d'Or victor Ronaldo sustained a "slight ankle sprain" after 17 minutes against Barcelona - moments after he levelled the scores at 1-1 - following a collision with Barca defender Gerard Pique and was replaced at the break.

Turning to the 2018 World Cup, Messi said that Argentina would see the tournament as a failure if they didn't reach the semi-finals.
