George Clooney in Car Accident in Italy

According to TMZ, the 57 year old actor was driving about 60 miles per hour before the collision occurred.

Local media reported that he was then taken by an ambulance to John Paul II Hospital, after suffering 'trauma to his knee'.

It's thought he has sustained a hip injury from the incident and has since been released from hospital.

Clooney told a friend it's "good to be alive" after the road accident.

The image showed slight damage to the actor's bike and smashed glass to the left of the Mercedes car's windscreen.

He was said to be travelling 60mph at the time when the vehicle reportedly changed direction suddenly and collided with the bike. If Clooney would have been seriously injured, the driver would have become public enemy number one.

Italian media reported that Clooney was knocked off his bike by a auto and taken to a local hospital.
