Sebastian Vettel hoping to ‘kill Mercedes’ magic’ at British Grand Prix

Sebastian Vettel hoping to ‘kill Mercedes’ magic’ at British Grand Prix

Hamilton's team-mate Valtteri Bottas then led and a second safety auto, after Renault's Carlos Sainz and Haas' Romain Grosjean collided, kept the front four nose to tail and only fractions apart.

"We need to find some performance in the race starts to avoid incidents like we saw [at Silverstone}", Wolff said.

Allison, who quit Ferrari to join Mercedes, was brought into the post-race row by Merc chief Toto Wolff.

Mercedes team-principal hardened the response into quasi-accusation. "Admitted it and apologized to Lewis". Vettel drove brilliantly for his victory, Hamilton thrilled 140,000 racing souls in fighting his way through the field from dead last to second. Hamilton, forced in to a spin, continued last on track, while Raikkonen was later deemed responsible by the stewards and given a ten-second penalty. "Interesting tactics I would say from their side (Ferrari), but we'll do what we can to fight them".

"I'm going to see my guys tonight and tell them to keep pushing so that we're as good as we can get tomorrow".

Hamilton was 29 seconds behind leader Vettel and 11 behind Raikkonen, but he was turning in the quickest laps of the race, and when Daniel Ricciardo stopped for a second time, he was up to fifth.

Hamilton has now lost points in six of the 10 races so far this season either through his own mistake as at Silverstone or technical problems and botched strategy calls by Merc.

All of which sounded like anguished moans of the vanquished to Vettel, who with victory extended his championship lead to eight points.

However, all vividly remembered the confrontation between Brazil and Mexico, where the first won a victory with the score 2:0. Brazil will leave their base on Russia's Black Sea coast for the final time on Thursday to head to Kazan for Friday's game.

"It's silly to think that anything happened was deliberate", he insisted. The Italians titled their post-race press release as "British Grand Prix - a hammer blow", in a jibe at Mercedes' "hammer time" catchphrase.

"The accident was unfair basically, because it's the second time a Ferrari hits us in the first corner, and it's not amusing".

Former F1 star Jenson Button however didn't believe Ferrari intentionally rammed Hamilton. "But it's tough and there is high tension", Button said.

The drivers rode low to the ground turning the pedals in front of them and their vehicles were dressed-up homestyle - some as vintage cars, one decked out in flowers and others like Formula 1 speed machines. "You try not to but sometimes you slip up".

More frustration followed on Turn Three when Raikkonen locked up and crashed into Hamilton, leaving the reigning World champion to rejoin the contest in 18th position.

Kevin Magnussen scored just two points for Haas after starting the race from seventh place, and Pierre Gasly finished 10th for Toro Rosso. At the re-start, Bottas gunned the throttle at the end of the Hangar Straight on lap 37 and kept Vettel at bay, as Raikkonen and Verstappen engaged in a fierce fight that went the way of the Red Bull.

The way in which the break clause was announced and subsequent briefings did not go down well with Formula One's new owners Liberty Media, who have taken a very different approach to Ecclestone's.
