Microsoft Surface Go: Specs, Price and Pre-order

Microsoft's cheaper Surface tablet has finally gone official after weeks of speculation.

Microsoft just unveiled the Surface Go, its $399 iPad killer.

The Surface Go doesn't feature radical changes from a design perspective at all.

The lightweight, 1.15-pound Surface Go - about twice as big as many smartphones - is created to be portable, but Microsoft has also developed accessories to give it more of a laptop feel.

If you're a fan on Microsoft's Surface lineup of devices, but thought they were a tad too expensive for your needs, Microsoft has launched the Surface Go, its smallest and most affordable Surface device yet. The device is equipped with an Intel processor, the base model will get CPU Pentium Silver N5000, and the older models can be equipped with Pentium Gold (Gold 4410Y Intel Pentium or Intel Pentium Gold 4415Y from Kaby Lake). There are several versions of the tablet: with 4 or 8 GB of RAM and 64 or 128 GB of internal memory.

Externally, the device is a lot like the familiar Surface Pro.

Panay called the new tablet a "new entry point for the Surface family", citing the $400 United States dollars price tag ($529 CAD). This means that the Surface Go has basically all the features of the premium Surface Book, all with a fraction of the Surface Book's price.

Amazon Prime Day: All you need to know
ET and run through July 17, offering more than 1 million deals for Amazon Prime members , along with select deals at all U.S. The service works on Android and iOS platforms, but it can also be used with Amazon Echo and other similar products.

On Monday, the company teased the upcoming product with a tweet that said "Where will Surface go next?"

It comes with 10-inch custom-built high-resolution PixelSense Display that supports Surface Pen with 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity, low pen parallax, low latency, and precision for accurate note taking, drawing and computer-aided design.

The lower price tag for the Surface Go should again be an indication of it packing slightly lesser capable specifications compared to the Surface Pro.

The novelty has received a 10-inch display, built-in stand case-keyboard and is running Windows 10. The Surface Go comes with 2 Watt stereo speakers with Dolby Audio.

For the first time on Microsoft hardware, the Go is to use the USB-C charging standard.

The Surface Pro is also available today with LTE Advanced connectivity, while we're told that the Surface Go will be available with that as an option further down the line.

Other available accessories for Surface Go include a mobile mouse for $34.99 and a $99 Surface Pen you can use to draw or write on the multi-touch (1800x1200) screen - and yes, your older Surface Pen will work here.
