Newcastle United have struck a deal on Japan worldwide striker Yoshinori Muto's transfer from Mainz, the English Premier League club announced Friday.

Lejeune had a slow start to life at Newcastle after moving to St James' Park last summer, with the defender injured in his competitive debut following an incident with Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane.

Mitrovic, 23, scored 12 goals in 17 games last season after joining Fulham on loan on deadline day in January, helping the London club to promotion after navigating through the playoffs.

The Premier League club said the deal is now subject to approval, with 26-year-old Muto needing a work permit.

"He played in the World Cup in a good team".

Another story that has rumbled on throughout the transfer window concerns Dwight Gayle, who looks set to leave Tyneside to complete a move to recently relegated West Brom - with Sky Sports suggesting it could be a swap deal.

Mitrovic joined Newcastle from Anderlecht in the summer of 2015 for £14.5 million and has scored 17 goals in 72 appearances.

The club have already agreed a deal for the Japanese striker Yoshinori Muto from Mainz.

With no cover for DeAndre Yedlin either (apart from Manquillo...), it only leaves Rafa Benitez with five fit defenders who are up to the job: Lascelles, Clark, Yedlin, Dummett, and Schar - if he proves to be able to handle the Premier League.

Monday morning brings reports that Newcastle United have had a bid for Federico Fernandez turned down.

Newcastle hold the trump cards though as Leicester will not accept a sale of Maguire until a replacement is secured, so they could stand firm.
