Guardiola: I've never met a striker who fights like Gabriel Jesus

Guardiola: I've never met a striker who fights like Gabriel Jesus

Guardiola has previously spoken of his excitement to lock horns with Sarri in the top-flight throughout the course of the upcoming season and ahead of the sides' Community Shield outing this weekend, the Spaniard was full of praise again for his counterpart.

The Italian took over from compatriot Antonio Conte last month after almost wrestling the Serie A title from Juventus with old club Napoli last season.

However, a new challenge faces Sarri in the 2018/19 campaign as he looks to enjoy a successful first season in English football with the Blues.

"We want him to stay but he does not have a work permit yet so we will try to convince the federation to allow him to stay", Guardiola said. "I think my job is to improve my players and so we will have to work for this target, to reduce the gap". I saw three games [of Chelsea] in pre-season and he got it. "I want players who want to come to Manchester City". I have never met one striker who fights like he fights.

"Yes, we were close but in the end Jorginho made a decision to stay with Sarri", he said.

At this venue, in May, Antonio Conte won the FA Cup and found it was not enough to keep his job having trailed in 30 points behind Manchester City in the Premier League and upset the players.

He is also charged with ties to the movement of US-based cleric Fethullah Gulen whom Erdogan blames for the failed coup. White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said the men had played leading roles in Brunson's 2016 arrest and detention.

The 59-year-old is eager to do well but he acknowledges the size of the task against the Premier League champions.

In each of the past two Community Shield matches, new signings have scored, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic netting for Manchester United against Leicester City in 2016 and Sead Kolasinac doing likewise for Arsenal previous year. "We have very good midfielders, but maybe a midfielder with different characteristics".

Guardiola heads into the game on the back of a fine second season in England, winning the Carabao Cup and breaking records en route to the Premier League title.

"If at the end we decide to bring another one, it is because he's a special player, can be a special player for the future, not to have one more player for the number".

Sarri has already set about charming his new squad and is confident Willian will stay after talks with the Brazilian on Thursday.

"I want to win, because it's very important to have a trophy immediately".
