In a separate development, according to media reports, Russian Federation is planning to deploy military police on the Golan Heights frontier between Syria and Israel and set up eight observation posts.

"When the Syrian forces with all their supporters are trying to capture the areas close to the borders we can expect more mistakes and more friction with us".

Lieberman also pointed out that the Israeli air defense system, as well as the Israeli army forces, are prepared for any type of emergency threatening Israel's security.

Israel has been lobbying the Kremlin to use its influence with Assad, and with Tehran, to try to get the Iranian military presence in Syria scaled back.

During their summit in Helsinki, Russian President Vladimir Putin and President Donald Trump said they were exploring ways to protect Israel from the war in Syria.

Relations between the two countries have been sour for decades, following numerous episodes of hostilities, Syria's participation in the 1967 Six-Day War of Arab nations against Israel and Israel's continued occupation of the Golan Heights, among other issues. Lieberman reiterated Israel's demand that Iran not set up military bases against it in Syria, and that Syria not be used to smuggle arms to Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Chief of the Russian General Staff's Main Operations Directorate, Colonel-General Sergei Rudskoi, reported on Thursday that the control over the Syrian-Jordanian border had been fully restored after an operation of the Russian Aerospace Forces and further assistance from the military police.

Seven IS militants were killed in an Israeli attack overnight Wednesday in Syria's Golan Heights. An initial assessment by Israel's military identified the gunmen as Islamic State militants, in what would mark a rare attempt by the Islamist militants to infiltrate Israel.

In Amman, Jordan's Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said the Syrian government has not officially requested the opening of the Syria-Jordan border after government forces recaptured its side of a crossing from rebels last month.

"Anti-aircraft, our aerial defences, are really prepared and ready and prove their abilities at the moment of truth", Israeli Defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman told reporters.
