5 things to know about new DG of DSS, Matthew Seiyefa

Seiyefa is the erstwhile Director of the Institute of Security Studies (ISS) and the highest ranking director in the Service.

Security operatives comprising men of the Department State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Police, yesterday blocked all entry or exit from the National Assembly.

"The presidency's sack of Daura was a damage-control stunt and a knee-jerk gimmick which came as a response to the national and global outcry against the armed invasion of our legislature", said a PDP statement.

Daura was also said to have cancelled the regular meeting of the DG with state directors, the traditional channel for briefing his office on security issues around the country and the forum for top level evaluation of operations.

Sequel to Daura's summary dismissal, Osinbajo approved the appointment of Mr. Matthew Seiyefa as the Acting DG of the DSS.

Osinbajo had earlier directed Daura to hand over to the most senior director in the agency.

Members of security forces block the entrance of the National Assembly in Abuja, Nigeria, August 7, 2018.

The President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, on Monday arrived the National Assembly after the evacuation of operatives of the Department of State Services.

Nigeria's acting president Prof. Parliament went on recess last week until September 25 but meetings were to be held on Tuesday.

"That was the explanation, which the IGP also tendered to the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, who summoned both Daura and Idris to the Villa to explain their roles in the siege on the NASS".
