Israel rejects European Union plan to link Gaza to the West Bank

"The Hamas terrorist organization is responsible for everything in and out of the Gaza Strip and will bear the consequences for the acts of terror perpetrated against Israeli civilians", the IDF said. Reports said it wasn't clear if one of those hurt was wounded by a rocket or by debris from the rocket defense system.

Hamas has denied it launched the rocket at Beersheba, blaming a militant Salafi group in the strip instead.

Nickolay Mladenov, the United Nations envoy for the Middle East conflict who has been seeking to negotiate a long-term truce between Israel and Hamas, said he was "deeply alarmed" and called on all sides to "step back from the brink".

Almost 160 Palestinians have been killed and some 17,500 others wounded in the fresh wave of violence, according to the latest figures released by the Palestinian Health Ministry.

The escalation started on late Wednesday, when Palestinians shot at an Israeli army patrol on the Gaza border, only damaging the vehicle.

Following May's rocket attacks, Israel and Gaza eventually reached an uneasy ceasefire mediated by Egypt, though rocket launches and airstrike retaliation has continued to plague both sides.

The Hamas deputy chief Khalil Al-Hayya told Al Jazeera TV on Wednesday that talks mediated by the United Nations and Egypt to bring calm to the region were in "advanced stages." according to Reuters.

Shortly after, the BBC responded to the Israeli complaints and edited the headline slightly by adding "after rockets hit Israel" without explaining the reason behind the edit. Along with Egypt, Israel maintains a blockade that has brought the territory's economy to a state of collapse.

Why Khloe Kardashian can't breastfeed her baby
World Health Organization recommends that infants should be exclusively breastfed to meet their evolving nutritional requirements. Exclusive breastfeeding also helps to bring about bonding of baby and mother and helps delay a new pregnancy.

After Israel responded with tank fire, dozens of rockets were sent toward Israeli territory on Wednesday night.

Jamie McGoldrick, the United Nations' humanitarian coordinator for the Palestinian territories, in a news release called Israel's restriction of fuel imports "a unsafe practice, with grave consequences on the rights of people in Gaza".

The strikes came after two fighters from the military wing of Hamas, which rules Gaza, were killed by Israeli fire on Tuesday.

Gaza has been controlled by Hamas for more than a decade, during which time it has fought three wars against Israel, most recently in 2014.

On Wednesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened an emergency meeting of his security Cabinet - which includes Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman and senior army commanders - to discuss mounting tensions along the Gaza-Israel buffer zone.

Get ready, or not: An army official's warning that a war with Gaza is a very real possibility and southerners should get ready to evacuate the Gaza border region may have been meant as a scare tactic in the hopes that Hamas will realize how sideways things are about to turn, but that doesn't mean it's not also true.

One Israeli soldier had also been shot dead by a Palestinian sniper.

Gaza's residents have been protesting every week since 30 March at Israel's border fence, which have been violently suppressed.
