At least four dead in Fredericton shooting

One of the two Fredericton police officers who died in the shooting that also killed two civilians Friday morning is being remembered as a constant source of cheer by a friend and former colleague.

The circumstances of the shooting in Fredericton, about 75 kilometers (45 miles) from the border between Canada and the U.S. state of ME, were not immediately clear.

Police said the suspect was also being treated for serious injuries.

The local health authority says Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional hospital is now treating multiple victims of today's shooting.

The Canadian broadcaster CBC said that the shooting happened in a residential area of the city and that paramedics and firefighters were on the scene.

During yesterday's horror authorities imposed a lockdown on terrified residents as images showed emergency vehicles converging on a tree-lined residential street.

Sara Burns, 43, had wanted to be a police officer for a long time.
